Our Mental Health First Aiders are here to support and listen to you.
The Hills Group is committed to creating a workplace where everyone feels safe, supported, and able to bring their whole selves to work. A key part of this commitment is our network of Mental Health First Aiders (MHFAs) – trained colleagues from across the business who are here whenever you need someone to listen.
What is a Mental Health First Aider?
Mental Health First Aiders are fellow employees who have completed accredited training to:
- listen without judgement
- provide reassurance and information
- offer practical support
- guide you to professional help and resources when needed
- champion positive mental health across the business.
They’re not counsellors or therapists, but they are a friendly, confidential first point of contact when you’re struggling with your mental wellbeing, or if you’re concerned about a colleague.
When should you reach out to a MHFA?
You can speak to an MHFA about anything affecting your mental wellbeing, including:
- feeling stressed, overwhelmed, or burnt out
- anxiety, low mood, or changes in how you’re coping day to day
- workplace or personal challenges
- worries about a friend, colleague, or loved one
- if you simply need someone to talk to in confidence.
No issue is too small. If it matters to you, it matters to us.
What you can expect
When you reach out to a Mental Health First Aider, they will:
- listen openly and confidentially
- treat you with kindness, empathy, and respect
- help explore what support might help you feel better
- signpost you to internal and external resources
- follow up with you (if you want them to).
You’re in control of the conversation at all times.
How to find a Mental Health First Aider
We have MHFAs located across departments, sites, and teams, so support is always close by.
Details of all our MHFAs are on the contact notice boards at all sites, eTouch and the online Wellbeing Hub.
Why we have MHFAs
We know that wellbeing is fundamental to a healthy, engaged, and high performing organisation. By having trained Mental Health First Aiders, we aim to:
- reduce stigma around mental health
- ensure everyone has access to early, compassionate support
- build a culture where asking for help is encouraged and normal
- strengthen our overall wellbeing culture.
You’re never alone—there’s always someone here to listen.
Our MHFAs are proud to be part of your support network. If you need a conversation, a moment to pause, or help finding the right support, we’re here for you.
And if you are interested in becoming a future MHFA, please contact Hills’ HR Team.
