Environment & community

As a family-owned and essentially local business, Hills cares passionately about the environment it shares with local communities.

Hills’ commitment to the environment is formally set out in an environmental policy, which includes regular audits of all the business operations. The Hills environmental management system (EMS) allows all operations to be managed in line with stringent environmental policies, legislation and procedures.

Sustainability is one of the main drivers for the Hills business. Whether extracting minerals, managing and recycling waste or building new homes – minimising the possible impact on neighbouring communities is an unrelenting commitment and is central to the Hills philosophy.

Hills recognises the need to communicate with all stakeholders and liaison groups are run for the main operating sites. Hills support extends to longstanding partnerships and funding to bodies such as the Wiltshire Wildlife Trust, Community First and the Cotswold Water Park Trust – all of whom make major contributions to the local environment ensuring this natural resource can be enjoyed now and by future generations.
