The NAAFI building and surrounding land is owned by Hills after the site was purchased from the Ministry of Defence in 2011. At the time of purchase the building was in a severe state of neglect and had suffered from repeated vandalism. A clawback clause included in the terms of the sale means development of the site is restricted.
Hills consulted the public following the sale and formed a project group to look at how the site could be used to benefit the community, while adhering to the conditions of the sale.
However, the NAAFI project group has suspended its meetings after it failed to come up with a viable plan for the site which delivered on the requirements set out by the community.
Demolition of the NAAFI buildings commenced on 26 April 2018. Hills is liaising with the RAF Yatesbury Association on how the historical use of the site can be commemorated.
