Kintbury
Our site at Barton Court, Kintbury, near Hungerford recycles skip wastes and acts as a transport depot for the area. It was originally worked for sand and gravel and then landfilled with waste. When new regulations evolved, the landfill operation came to an end and a transfer station was established, which receives skip wastes for West Berkshire and sends them on in bulk for recycling at the company's landfill site north of Swindon.
The site is the only facility of its type in West Berkshire with planning permission and makes a valuable contribution to the area and to the cause of sustainability. It handles some 2,000 tonnes of skip waste each month, of which around 1,500 tonnes (75 per cent) is ultimately recycled. Much of that is in the form of construction and demolition materials which are re-used as a substitute for primary aggregates. In doing so, they help the vital cause of sustainability.
Hills operates a liaison committee for the site which includes representatives from West Berkshire District Council and Kintbury Parish Council. You can read liaison committee minutes here.
