Upwood Park, Besselsleigh & Tubney Wood
Upwood Park, Besselsleigh
The Upwood Park Quarry, near Besselsleigh just off the A420, replaced the nearby Tubney Woods Quarry when that came to an end in 2012.
The quarry produces high quality mortar sand and various grades of crushed rock together with secondary aggregates through resource recovery from a tipping operation for inert materials. A ready-mixed concrete plant is also based at the site. After extraction, three of the four fields will be backfilled with inert subsoil type materials to restore the land to agriculture at original ground levels which will consequentially improve the agricultural potential.
The largest field is to be restored at a low level (i.e. with no infilling) and transferred to BBOWT to manage in perpetuity for nature conservation and habitat bio-diversity. It will complement the ecological interest of the adjoining Sites of Special Scientific Interest and National Nature Reserves.
Tubney Wood Quarry
The reserves at Tubney Wood quarry are now exhausted and the site i sin the final years of restoration.
Hills operates a liaison committee for both of these quarries which includes representatives from local communities, the landowners and Oxfordshire County Council.
